"SOUTHEND" IS NOW "COPPER CAVERN', HAVING BEEN CLOSED, REMODELED, AND RE-OPENED WITH NEW DECOR AND ATTITUDE. (SOUTHEND BRYS IN ALL LOCATIONS SEEM TO BE RATHER IN-ATTENTIVE TO OUR NEEDS!) I ENJOYED THE BEERS, AND TALKING WITH THE BREWER AND THE MANAGER. COZY PLACE!

Was here New Years Eve in the afternoon. Hadn't had a beer all day. Travel for a living and like to try beers all around the country. Personal preference is IPA's or Stouts or Porters. The 8 glass sampler did not satisfy. I left after sipping all 8 and only fully finishing 3. The place hasn't been open that long and it shows. The beer seemed amateurish at best. I've brewed and had friends brew better beer in their homes. Wasn't impressed at all and went across the river to try the River City Brewery...

Pretty good selection of beers. The seasonal was the Oktoberfest-Marzen, which was very good. Also, their Oatmeal Stout is an excellent sweet stout.

If you can only go to one brewpub in Jacksonville, try this one. It has a nice waterview, eight beer sampler, and the food is decent. I recieved very nice service, a few lagers that really hit the spot, a Belgian style, a Scottish style and I finished it with a creamy, yummy stout. This place had the nicest variety, of the four brewpubs I tried, during my stay in Jax. 'Nuff-ced.

This is inside a big downtown shopping mall called Jacksonville Landing. It is on the north/downtown side of the St. John River. The Southend Brewpub is on the east end of the mall right on the river (the "south" in the name is because it is part of a chain of brewpubs). We were able to find street parking for a stop at lunchtime. They have great outside tables right along the river. The beers are good though some are on the mild side. There wasn't much difference between the light blonde and the blonde. The belgian white seasonal was a bit too mild also. But you should be able to find something you like here. The pale ale, red, brown ale, and oatmeal stout were all fine. The beers alone might not bring me back but the combination of the beer and the view will.

Worst server and the atmosphere was terrible for a place with such a great setting. Food was poor and no concern from the server made it worth avoiding in the future.

Went for lunch and ordered a salad. The waitress was pleasant but the salad was gross complete with a fly. The manager was totally rude and obviously not a happy person. My beer was not top of the line. Would not go back.

a friendly bartender was th saving grace, the beer was the standard Jax offerings, the place has a nice view of the harbour. when i asked if they sold pint glasses with their logo, she said that they were out and had been for months, she said they didn't have coasters or matchbooks with their logo, apparently the owner is to cheap to spend the money on printing. hopefully he doesn't take the same view toward the food, with the beer it don't matter, its a lost cause in Jax, no one is producing anything worthwhile, stay with name brands.

Visited on a slow Wednesday afternoon with virtually no customers in sight. Good selection of beers running the gamut from light to oatmeal stout. Summer wheat was good, but not exceptional. Oatmeal stout on the other hand was one of the best I've had anywhere. Bartender was also very attentive and friendly. Free parking would have been appreciated, which is one thing River City Brewing has going for it that Southend doesn't. Views from both are spectacular. If you are visiting the Landings, don't leave without quaffing a few at Southend.

I believe there is some confusion here about Southend. Two breweries are on the St. John's river one on the southbank, one on the northbank. The southbank brewery is Rivercity brewing co. (THIS IS THE MEATMARKET). Southend is on the northbank in the Landing. Southend's talented brewmaster, John Clark, will tell all. Catch him around noon, or General manager Tim O'brien in the evenings. Both are friendly guys that really know their stuff!

We'd also heard bad reports about the one over the river, so we set out for unknown territory. Directions confused us for a while - why didn't anyone just say it was in the Landing shops? We tried the Sampler - my partner preferred the darker beers while I go for the hoppies. Food was good, if slightly expensive for bar food, service okay, views over the river marvellous.

After being turned away from the competition across the river (my money wasn't green enough for them), I ended up here. I was glad. The beers were good, if not exceptional. We had the Pale Ale and Stout, plus a complimentary sample of the Pilsner. All were vary good. I'd really like to rate the beers here as a 'Good Plus'. I was sipping my beer and thinking, "Too bad I can't just get a taste of the Pilsner," when the waitress showed up with a free sample. She also brought some bread for my daughter to eat. Very friendly. It was Saturday night, but we must have left before it became a 'meat market.' We were eating vegitarian anyway :) The salads were great quality, and plenty big enough.
